Green School’s is Irelands leading environmental management and education programme for schools.

This programme promotes long-term whole-school action for the environment. It is a student led programme that encourages them to involve the wider community so everyone can reap the benefits.

There are 8 Themes under the Green Schools Initiative as follows:

Litter & Waste is the first theme. It focuses on litter and waste issues, encouraging a sense of responsibility

Energy looks at the steps which can be taken at school to reduce energy consumption and raise awareness of climate change

This theme develops awareness around water conservation and how to effectively manage this important resource in schools

This theme aims to increase the number of students walking, cycling, scooting, using public transport or carpooling to school

Biodiversity looks at increasing awareness in schools of the importance of native plants, animals and habitats

For the last number of years, we have been learning about environmentally friendly actions such as

  • Recycling
  • Energy conservation
  • Water conservation.

To date we are the proud owners of green flags for recycling and energy conservation.

The students and committee have been working together coming up with ideas for each theme. They have been doing excellent work to date and it shouldn’t be long until we welcome another flag into our school.

We are currently in the process of applying for our 3rd green flag. If you’d like to help us with this school initiative, please do not hesitate to contact us or any member of the Green Schools committee.

Members of the committee are as follows:

Coordinators:  Ms. Cullen & Ms. De Burca

Class Representatives:  Individual class representative from each class

Parent Representative:  Siobhan Roche

BOM Representative:  Bartle Redmond

Community Representative:  Alan Kearns
